Evaluation

After creating my final version of my radio drama, I believe that my idea was suitable for this project as I was able to complete it and had a few voice actors who took this professionally. When is started my project I felt that my idea wasn’t very original and that I hadn’t planned it very well, because of this I thought that it wasn’t do-able and that I would not be able to archive what I had expected myself to achieve. However, I would not go back and change my idea as I was able to complete my radio drama.
In my research, I identified the types of radio drama such as the serial and independent dramas as well as analyzing a drama of the same genre as my own. This allowed me to develop my idea by looking at the conventions that these dramas use. The analyzing of a drama that is the same genre as mine allowed me to investigate what makes the audience sit on the end of their seats as well as what sounds where convincing and could convey the scene to the audience.
I feel that I could have done better at planning my time management better, for example, I did not make a schedule and half way through my project I realized that it was something that I really needed. In the future I would start the project by taking in how much work I need to do and create a schedule straight away – I feel that this would prevent me from running out of time and allow me to prepare for my project a lot easier. I feel that I should have spent more time on the script as it wasn’t planned very well, and the dialogue could have been more captivating and convincing for the audience. I think that my recording was one of the best aspects of my radio drama as I had picked some good peers to voice act my characters – the main character was voice acted by Alex Beadle and I think that he did a fantastic job and was excellent at conveying each and every line in the tone of each scene. The equipment I used was easy to set up and equally easy to use, this meant that it didn’t take as long as I thought it would to capture all of the dialogue, so I got my final product edited a lot faster than I had anticipated. When editing my final product, I had tried to make it as professional as I could, however I think that my lack of experience with Audition prevented me from completing my radio drama to its full potential. My sound effects where used to create ambient noises such as footsteps, I think I used these sounds very well and I had edited them to make sure that they were not too loud.
One of the most difficult things that I had to overcome in this project was finding what things to research, I could not find much information on radio dramas and I also had to turn to youtube created radio dramas to be able to analyze dramas that related to my own radio drama. As well as this, coming up with a do-able idea that did not require visual aspects to convey what was happening to the audience was very difficult, but I managed to do this by choosing a topic that could be easily pronounced with only short clips of audio. Another aspect I struggled on was the software that we had to use, I found this difficult because I didn’t know anything about Adobe Audition before I began this project and I couldn’t navigate the software as well as I would have liked. Due to this, I only used the basics that I knew about to create my radio drama such as the volume of audio, the cut tool and the pan to change where the origin of sound was (left to right).
In the future, I would make my schedule before starting the project to make sure I am aware of the time I have. As well as this, I would use my basic knowledge in Audition in my future projects to use higher quality sounds in audio or visual products. I would also use the microphone set ups that I used in this project to capture good quality sounds that do not have any background interference. After learning about how sounds can affect the audience's perceptions, I would also try my best to implement sound effects and other perception making elements in my future projects to immerse my audience much more. If I was to try and improve on my skill in sound development in the future, I would learn more about the software so that I would be able to edit the sounds and I would practice a lot more on the Foley behind sounds and how I can use objects to create these sounds.
